Road Trip-Ready Your Tires |
It's that time again. Yellow Motors Limited invites you to return to their service center for an inflation pressure check of your NitroFill inflated tires. Even though NitroFill will drastically reduce pressure loss from permeation, temperature fluctuations can cause pressure changes that can affect your fuel economy, tire life, and safety.
| |
NitroFill, as well as all automobile and tire manufacturers, recommends that you check your tire pressure at least every 30 days, because even seemingly slight variations in pressure can make a big difference. According to the American Automobile Association, one tire that is under-inflated by as little as 2 to 5 PSI, an amount small enough to go undetected by most common tire gauges and vehicle Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, can reduce fuel economy by up to 10%.

Save money with the following tips from the U.S. Department of Energy:
Drive Sensibly
Aggressive driving (speeding, rapid acceleration and braking) wastes gas. It can lower your gas mileage by 33 percent at highway speeds and by 5% around town. Sensible driving is also safer for you and others - you could save more than gas money.
|
Keep Your Engine Tuned
Keeping your vehicle's engine tuned by following the recommended maintenance schedule saves fuel. A poorly tuned engine can lower fuel economy by 4% on average.
|
Observe the Speed Limit
While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. As a rule of thumb, you can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.21 per gallon of gas. Observing the speed limit is also safer.
| |
Install a New Air Filter
Driving with a new air filter can improve economy up to 10%.
|
Remove Excess Weight
Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG up to 2%. The reduction is based upon the percentage of extra weight relative to the vehicle's weight. Smaller vehicles are also more greatly affected than larger ones.
| |
Change the Engine Oil Regularly
Keeping your engine's oil clean in addition to using the recommended grade of oil will increase fuel economy by 1 to 2%.

Common Causes of Low Tire Pressure |
 |
Low tire pressure is generally due to one of the following three conditions:
A Leak.
Most tire leaks are the result of a hole or puncture, faulty valve, or a porous or corroded wheel.
|
Permeation.
Permeation is the normal process by which the air in a tire bleeds through the tire's body or carcass. It is typical for an air-filled tire to lose 1-2 PSI of pressure every month through normal permeation, whereas it can take several months for a NitroFilled tire to lose a single pound of pressure. |
Temperature Change.
All gases expand and contract with temperature. If you live in an area that experiences dramatic temperature changes, you will have to adjust your tire pressure accordingly. Typically you will only have to adjust your tire pressure "up," adding pressure as ambient temperatures decrease. Count on losing about 2% of your total tire pressure for every 10 degrees in temperature reduction. |
Participating NitroFill™ dealers will always check and correct your tire pressure with NitroFill™ for free during your membership period. We recommend you have this done every 30 days if possible, or as often as your schedule permits. |
